CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 280-272 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 20 mm, 6.70 g, 1 h), Phy..., Sodamos and Gu..., magistrates. The Dioscouri (or two ephebes), nude but for their cloaks, riding horses galloping to left; above, monogram of ΦΥ; below, [ΣΩΔΑΜΟΣ]. Rev. TAPAΣ Youthful oikist, nude, riding dolphin to left, holding Nike in his right hand and shield decorated with hippocamp in his left; to left, ΓY; below, waves. HN III 1011. Vlasto 773 ff. Beautifully toned. Struck from somewhat worn dies, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
